A devastating landslide near Chidwasa on the Kedarnath pilgrimage route in Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district turned a day of spiritual journey into a heart-wrenching disaster on Sunday. Three individuals lost their lives, while eight others sustained injuries as debris and stones cascaded down the hill, striking pilgrims making their way from Gaurikund to Shri Kedarnath Dham.
The ill-fated incident unfolded around 7.30 am, approximately 3 kilometers ahead of Gaurikund, catching the devotees by surprise. The injured were promptly rushed to a nearby health center in Gaurikund, and a swift rescue operation commenced to search for any possible trapped individuals amidst the rubble.
Upon receiving the distressing news, the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) team sprang into action, racing to the accident site under the leadership of Inspector Aniruddh Singh Bhandari. Tragically, three lives were lost instantly, and their remains were entrusted to the district police by the SDRF team.
Unfolding in a moment of unforeseen tragedy, the landslip left a trail of sorrow and anguish along the sacred pilgrimage path. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed his deep sadness over the incident, assuring continuous support for the relief and rescue efforts. Dhami emphasized the urgency of providing immediate and enhanced medical care to those injured in the heartbreaking calamity, emphasizing the state’s unwavering commitment to aiding the affected pilgrims during this challenging time.
