Indian Area Record Paralympics 2024: Sachin Khilari made India proud by clinching a silver medal in the men’s shot put F46 event at the ongoing Paralympic Games in Paris. Khilari’s remarkable performance saw him setting an Area Record with a best throw of 16.32 metres and finishing just 0.06 points behind the gold medallist Greg Stewart of Canada.
Sachin Khilari, aged 34, showcased exceptional talent and determination, achieving the best performance of his career. Prior to his silver medal at the Paralympics, Khilari had secured a gold at the World Championships in 2023 and 2024, as well as at the Para Asian Games in Hangzhou last year. His silver medal at the Paralympics marks India’s 21st medal at the Games this year, surpassing the previous record of 19 medals at the Tokyo Paralympics three years ago.
During the men’s shot put final event, Khilari briefly held the gold medal position after his second throw. However, Greg Stewart from Canada claimed the lead in the third attempt with a record-breaking throw. Despite Khilari’s efforts to surpass Stewart, his distance of 16.31 metres fell just short. In the end, Stewart secured the gold medal with a personal best throw of 16.38 metres.
As Khilari settled for the silver, Luka Bakovic captured the bronze with a throw of 16.27 metres. Other Indian athletes, Mohd Yaseer and Rohit Kumar, also competed in the final, finishing in 8th and 9th place with throws of 14.21 and 14.10 metres respectively.
The men’s shot put F46 event showcased incredible talent and sportsmanship, with Sachin Khilari’s Area Record-setting performance standing out as a testament to India’s rising success in the Paralympic Games.
