Tripura Peace Agreement 2024: The Indian government, the Tripura state government, the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT), and the All Tripura Tiger Force (ATTF) took a significant stride towards ending decades of violence and establishing lasting peace in Tripura by signing a historic peace pact in New Delhi on Wednesday. Led by Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha, the agreement marks a turning point in the 35-year-long insurgency that has gripped the Northeastern state.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah hailed the peace agreement as a crucial milestone in ending the prolonged conflict in Tripura. He commended the insurgent groups for their decision to lay down arms and commit to the overall progress and development of the state. Shah highlighted that the focus of the Indian government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has been to foster peace and dialogue in the Northeast. The agreement aims to bridge both physical and emotional gaps between the region and the rest of India.
Expressing his satisfaction after the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Government of India, the Tripura government, and the NLFT and ATTF, Home Minister Amit Shah stated, “It is a matter of great joy for all of us today that after 35 years of conflict, you have laid down arms and joined the mainstream, committing to the development of Tripura. Since Prime Minister Modi took office, he has presented a vision of a prosperous and developed Northeast through peace and dialogue. There was a significant gap between the people of the Northeast and Delhi. He not only bridged this gap through road, rail, and air connectivity but also eliminated the emotional distance between people.”
Tripura Chief Minister Manik Saha expressed his gratitude to Amit Shah for his pivotal role in creating an environment of peace and prosperity in the region. He acknowledged that under Prime Minister Modi’s leadership, a dozen peace agreements have been signed in the Northeast over the past decade, with three specifically related to Tripura. The Chief Minister’s acknowledgment highlights the dedication and commitment of the central government towards the development of the region.
In an official statement released on September 3, the government reiterated its ongoing efforts to realize Prime Minister Modi’s vision of a developed and conflict-free Northeast. The statement highlighted that the government has already signed 12 peace agreements to date, resulting in approximately 10,000 individuals surrendering their arms and successfully integrating into mainstream society.
The Tripura Peace Agreement 2024 sets the stage for a prosperous and harmonious future for the people of Tripura. With the commitment of the Indian government, the Tripura state government, and the insurgent groups, this historic agreement will not only bring an end to violence but also propel the region towards sustainable development and progress. As the government continues to prioritize peace and dialogue in the Northeast, Tripura stands as a shining example of how conflicts can be resolved through meaningful negotiations and cooperation.
