In a momentous development, Union Minister for Rural Development, Agriculture, and Farmers’ Welfare, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, announced today (August 22) that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will present certificates to 11 lakh new ‘Lakhpati Didis’ at a special function in Jalgaon, Maharashtra on August 25 (Sunday).
The nationwide virtual event is set to witness people from approximately 30,000 locations across 34 states and union territories, including state capitals and district headquarters, joining the program. The Prime Minister’s participation holds immense significance as he unveils a revolving Community Investment Fund of Rs 2,500 crore, bringing benefits to around 48 lakh members of 4.3 lakh women Self Help Groups (SHGs), as stated by Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
Highlighting the accomplishments of the Lakhpati Didis, Shivraj Singh Chouhan described them as women who have elevated their annual income to Rs 1 lakh or more. Not only have these exceptional individuals lifted their families out of poverty, but they have also emerged as role models for society as a whole.
While recognizing the efforts already made by the Ministry of Rural Development in creating 1 crore Lakhpati Didis, Shivraj Singh Chouhan expressed determination to raise the figure to 3 crore Lakhpati Didis over the next 3 years. He praised the exceptional dedication of a community resource person who has successfully created 95 Lakhpati Didis.
Elaborating on the structured process adopted by the Ministry, Shivraj Singh Chouhan explained that it includes the training of National Resource Persons and the development of Master Trainers in each state. These empowered Master Trainers, in turn, provide business planning, financing, and convergence process training to Community Resource Persons. This cadre of 3 lakh specially trained individuals is instrumental in enabling the business growth and skill development of SHG members.
As a gesture of recognition, the Ministry of Rural Development plans to felicitate some of these community resource persons. The ministry has already achieved the target of forming 11 lakh Lakhpati Didis during the first 100 days, surpassing its set goal, Shivraj Singh Chouhan proudly stated.
The nationwide acknowledgement and celebration of Lakhpati Didis is a testament to the transformative role played by women entrepreneurs in uplifting their communities. Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s presence and the release of the Community Investment Fund further signify the government’s commitment to empowering women in rural areas and fostering economic growth.
The event on August 25 will not only commemorate the success of these enterprising women but also inspire countless others to strive for financial independence. The recognition bestowed upon the Lakhpati Didis reflects their dedication, resilience, and significant contributions to India’s progress.
