The Jammu and Kashmir Police have made a significant breakthrough in the fight against terrorism by busting a terror module that was operational to assist terrorists from across the border in infiltration. The police arrested nine over-ground workers of terrorists involved, officials revealed on Monday.
The terror module was uncovered in Kathua district, where the group was actively aiding terrorist movements in the upper reaches of Doda, Udhampur, and Kathua districts along the India-Pakistan border.
Those arrested include kingpin Mohammad Lateef, also known as Haji Lateef, along with Akhter Ali, Saddam, Kushal, Noorani, Maqbool, Liaquat, Kasim Din, and Khadim. Hailing from various villages in the Billwara belt of Kathua district, these individuals were identified as being part of the terror network.
The J&K Police hailed the arrests as a critical development in their ongoing efforts to counter terrorism and dismantle nefarious networks. A police spokesperson emphasized the importance of this operation, stating that Lateef, the kingpin, was in direct communication with terrorist handlers across the border, facilitating the illegal entry of foreign terrorists into India.
Moreover, the arrested members of the module confessed to providing assistance to three terrorists who were later killed in the Gandoh encounter. The encounter, which took place on June 26 in the Doda district, resulted in the neutralization of three Pakistani terrorists responsible for attacks on security forces.
Following leads provided by central agencies and conducting their own investigation, the J&K Police uncovered the main module behind recent infiltration activities, leading to increased terrorist movements in the region. Currently, over 50 residents are under scrutiny for their possible connections with terrorists, including providing shelter, food, or communication support.
The police have affirmed that individuals who promptly reported their interactions with terrorists are considered innocent, while those with prior connections or involvement are under investigation for possible liability. As the security forces continue to crack down on terrorist activities in Jammu and Kashmir, this latest operation marks a significant step towards ensuring peace and stability in the region.
