The bilateral trade between India and Brazil has surpassed the $15 billion mark, signaling a new phase of economic partnership between the two nations. Leonardo Ananda Gomes, Executive Director of the India-Brazil Chamber of Commerce, emphasized the immense potential for further collaboration while lauding the strong relationship between Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva.

Bilateral Trade and Economic Potential

Gomes expressed optimism about the expanding economic ties, noting that bilateral trade is only at the beginning of its potential. “With trade now at $15 billion, we see enormous room for growth. We frequently host Indian delegations here in Brazil, which reflects the deepening of this partnership,” Gomes stated.

Prime Minister Modi’s Visit to Brazil

Prime Minister Modi is set to attend the 19th G20 Leaders’ Summit in Brazil from November 18–19, playing a pivotal role as part of the G20 Troika. Gomes praised Modi’s leadership, saying, “PM Modi has done an excellent job and shares a strong relationship with Brazil and our President Lula. This is the best moment for the India-Brazil partnership.”

India’s G20 Legacy and Brazil’s Vision

Following India’s successful G20 presidency, which emphasized the priorities of the Global South, Brazil aims to build on this foundation during its tenure. Prime Minister Modi highlighted the continuity in their shared vision, stating, “India’s G20 Presidency last year mainstreamed the Global South’s priorities. Brazil is continuing this legacy, and I look forward to productive discussions under the theme of ‘One Earth, One Family, One Future.’”

Focus on Global South Priorities

As a Troika member, India will collaborate with Brazil to ensure that the G20 agenda remains focused on addressing issues critical to the Global South, such as sustainable development, climate action, and inclusive growth. Both nations aim to strengthen their partnership while advocating for equitable global progress.
