At the 3rd Voice of the Global South Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi emphasized the importance of unity among Global South nations, urging them to stand together with a unified voice and support each other. “It is the need of the hour that nations of the Global South unite and stand together in one voice and be each other’s strength,” he said.
The Global South Summit 2024, taking place against the backdrop of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, aims to address key global challenges that disproportionately affect developing countries. With a focus on conflicts, food and energy security, and climate change, the summit serves as a critical platform for collaboration and problem-solving.
India’s vision for the Global South aligns with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s philosophy of “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas, Sabka Vishwas aur Sabka Prayas” (Together with All, Development for All, the Trust of All, and the Efforts of All) and is rooted in the country’s principle of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam” (the world is one family). The event is designed to empower countries of the Global South by providing a space to share perspectives and set priorities on a range of developmental issues.
With the first and second Voice of Global South Summits held virtually in January and November last year and over 100 countries participating, the feedback from these summits has significantly influenced the discussions and agenda of the G-20 Summit under India’s presidency, including the New Delhi Leaders’ Declaration.
The structure and focus of the Global South Summit 2024 will include sessions at both the heads of state/government level and ministerial levels. Prime Minister Modi will host the inaugural session, setting the stage for continued dialogue on the pressing issues facing the Global South.
The Global South Summit 2024 represents a significant opportunity for nations to come together, collaborate, and work towards a more cohesive and harmonious world. The discussions and initiatives stemming from this summit are poised to have a far-reaching impact on the future of the Global South.
