Dantewada Naxalite Encounter 2024 in which at least nine Naxalites were killed in an encounter with security personnel in Chhattisgarh’s Dantewada on Tuesday. The operation, which was launched based on specific inputs about the presence of Naxalites belonging to its west Bastar division unit, resulted in a fierce gunfight that broke out around 30.30 am in the dense forest along the border of Dantewada and Bijapur districts. This incident marks a significant development in the ongoing efforts to combat Naxalite insurgency in the region.
A joint team comprising Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Chhattisgarh Police, and District Reserve Guard (DRG) forces was actively engaged in an anti-Naxal operation when the exchange of fire took place. “Nine Naxals have been killed in the exchange of fire between security forces and Naxals in the forest at the Dantewada Bijapur border,” confirmed Inspector General of Police Bastar P Sundarraj.
The gun battle, which lasted for an extended period, resulted in the recovery of the bodies of nine Naxalites dressed in ‘uniform’ from the encounter site. Furthermore, a substantial cache of weapons including SLR rifles, .303 Rifles, and .315 Bore rifles were seized from the Naxals, underlining the gravity of the situation. Thankfully, all personnel involved in the operation emerged unharmed.
It is crucial to note that this incident adds to the tally of successful encounters with Naxalites in Chhattisgarh this year, with the total number of Naxalites eliminated reaching 154, as per police records. Such operations signify a resolute commitment to maintaining law and order in the region and ensuring the safety of its residents.
In a related development, three women Naxalites were recently neutralized during an encounter with security forces in the dense forests of Abujhmad in the Narayanpur district of Chhattisgarh. The security forces, comprising personnel from the Special Task Force (STF), District Reserve Guard (DRG), and Border Security Force (BSF), seized a significant amount of weapons and Naxal-related materials from the encounter site. This successful operation underscores the persistent efforts to curb Naxalite activities in the region and maintain peace and security.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah, during an inter-state coordination meeting, reiterated the government’s commitment to eradicating Naxalism from the country by March 2026. The focus remains on implementing strategic measures to counter the Naxal insurgency effectively and expedite infrastructure projects in areas impacted by Left Wing Extremism (LWE). In conclusion, the recent encounter in Dantewada exemplifies the dedicated efforts of security forces in combating the Naxalite menace in Chhattisgarh. With continued vigilance and proactive measures, the authorities aim to ensure the safety and well-being of citizens while upholding the rule of law in the region.
