CEC Rajiv Kumar Calls for Strict Action Against Disrespectful Remarks Targeting Women
Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar issued a strong condemnation on Friday regarding derogatory comments made against women leaders during the ongoing election campaigns. In a meeting with election and law enforcement officials, he emphasized the need for immediate and strict action against any remarks that undermine women’s dignity.
Election Officials Instructed to Monitor Campaign Language
During the review meeting, which included District Election Officers, Police Commissioners, SPs, Municipal Commissioners, and Returning Officers, CEC Kumar expressed concern over offensive language targeting women leaders. He urged officials to ensure that political candidates and their parties maintain respectful conduct throughout the campaign.
Guidelines on Respectful Conduct for Political Campaigns
CEC Kumar stressed that all political figures must avoid personal attacks and respect the privacy of their opponents, refraining from comments unrelated to public responsibilities. “No aspects of personal life that are not connected to public duties should be criticized,” he stated, urging political parties to conduct themselves with respect for women’s dignity.
Enforcement of Model Code of Conduct (MCC) Provisions
The Chief Election Commissioner directed all officials to take immediate action against any remarks that breach the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) and undermine the dignity of women. Kumar expressed hope that all candidates and party leaders would elevate their discourse to reflect respect towards women, both in public speeches and interactions.
This directive reinforces the Election Commission’s commitment to maintaining respectful and dignified election campaigns across India.
