On Tuesday, Anna Shinde moved to the Bombay High Court, seeking a Special Investigation Team (SIT) probe into what he calls a “fake encounter.” The incident occurred during a transfer from Navi Mumbai’s Taoja jail to Badlapur.

According to police reports, Akshay Shinde allegedly snatched a policeman’s gun while being transported near the Mumbra bypass. In the ensuing struggle, he shot and injured an assistant inspector of police. In retaliation, another officer fired at him, resulting in severe injuries. Akshay was declared dead upon arrival at Kalwa Civil Hospital.
Father’s Allegations
Anna Shinde’s advocate, Amit Katarnaware, minced no words, stating, “The accused was in custody when he was shot dead in a fake encounter. This is a cold-blooded murder by criminals in uniforms.” The grieving father demands justice and insists that an SIT be formed to thoroughly investigate the circumstances surrounding his son’s death. The Bombay High Court, presided over by Justice Revati Mohite Dere and Justice Prithviraj Chavan, will hear the petition on Wednesday.
State Investigation and Forensic Examination
In response to the controversy, the Maharashtra government has assigned the state Crime Investigation Department (CID) to conduct a thorough probe. The postmortem of Akshay Shinde was carried out at Mumbai’s JJ Hospital by a team of five doctors, adhering to National Human Rights Commission guidelines. The body and the postmortem report have been handed over to the Mumbra Police.
Additionally, forensic science experts have been deployed to examine the police vehicle involved in the encounter. Their investigation aims to gather crucial evidence and shed light on the events leading to Shinde’s tragic demise.
