Argentine authorities arrested a man in Buenos Aires on Friday after discovering a significant collection of Nazi-era weapons and memorabilia in his home. The seizure included over 60 firearms and numerous artifacts bearing symbols from Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich, officials reported.

Extensive Arsenal of Nazi Weapons

Police confiscated 43 rifles marked with Nazi eagle emblems, 15 pistols, five bayonets, and a machine gun during the raid. In addition to weapons, the authorities found Nazi flags, military uniforms, helmets, hats, and busts of Hitler.

The operation took place in the city of Quilmes, located near Buenos Aires’ southern metropolitan area. The search was part of an effort to enforce Argentina’s national anti-discrimination laws, with assistance from the Buenos Aires Holocaust Museum.

Investigation with International Links

The suspect had been under surveillance following his travels abroad. His activities came to light during an investigation involving Bosnia-Herzegovina’s federal police, highlighting international cooperation in tackling hate-related crimes.

Argentina’s Troubled History with Nazi Fugitives

After World War II, Argentina became a refuge for several high-ranking Nazi officials fleeing prosecution for war crimes. Among them was Adolf Eichmann, a key architect of the Holocaust, who was captured in Buenos Aires in 1960 by Israeli intelligence agents.

The country has a history of dealing with Nazi-related activities. Just last year, authorities shut down a bookstore selling Nazi literature online, underscoring ongoing efforts to curb the spread of hate symbols and propaganda.

Combating Discrimination and Preserving History

This latest raid reflects Argentina’s commitment to addressing hate-related activities and ensuring compliance with anti-discrimination laws. The involvement of Holocaust Museum personnel highlights the importance of preserving historical memory while combating the resurgence of extremist ideologies.
